Describing new phenomena is fraught with pit-falls
"You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother" Albert Einstein (18 April 2005 is the 50th anniversary of Einstein's passing away.)
(Example: Explain HOW Gravity works... Don't just give a label (Consider Mark Twain's "Extracts from Adam's Diary") or a formula which describes the observed actions (James Clerk Maxwell).
"The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka" ("I found it") but rather "hmm... that's funny..." -- Isaac Asimov

(Example: Replacing God by "Big Bang" just begs the question. Assuming a steady-state model with time, space and God being infinite, without beginning, is the only logical assumption. How it operates is the only open question...Click here for Comments on the Big Bang and Johnny's Shaver.)
"Facts are very stubborn things, overruling all theories
."
Jules Verne, Journey to the Center of the Earth.

(Example: If an infinite universe has an infinite number of stars, why isn't the "night sky" totally white?)
The general public believes we live in an "enlightened age" which puts to shame the persecution of genius like Copernicus and Galileo. That is another "common knowledge" item which is incorrect.
