The Story of Terra

(GC Press Release from the Office of Protected Planets, GC 32 Scorpio, 36,001)

The Bad News

Terra, known locally as “Earth”, is a protected planet having been ravaged by unfortunate planetary interactions some LC 20,000 years ago.  The direct collision of other planetary bodies created fragments which ultimately eradicated most advanced civilizations (leaving what is now known locally as “China” and “India” as the only surviving cultures.).  Looting and land grabs by off-world interests so shocked the galactic community that strict treaties were established to ensure that the indigenous cultures would be given the “breathing room” needed to organically re-grow from its cultural roots. At the Great Terran Conference of GC 21,010, PsychoHistorians, MetaEconomists, and Culturologists were called in and asked to project a reasonable “hands off” time frame.   "We all would want the same for our own worlds if given these unfortunate turn of events. The ensuring GC 15,000 year sanction against tourist and other economic interactions was passed on GC 23 Vega 21,012.

The Good News

These sanctions are due to expire on the current Earth calendar on 5 May 2012 according to Magistrate Don Hardy, GC Chief of Protected Planets.  PsychoHistorians, MetaEconomists and their young technicians have been installed on Terra for the past LC 54 years.  The Advance Team has made great strides in nurturing the growth towards technologically powerful, yet responsible societies.  Even though, at present (LC 2003), apparent hostilities are underway, the PsychoHistorian onsite predicts resolution and a new LC 500 year Pax Terra in as soon as two to three years. In fact, the progress has been so good in recent times that the Galactic Counsel has agreed to hear a petition to reopen commerce LC five years early – 5 May 2007 in local calendar.  The reopening of the planet is expected to be authorized to prevent predicted geologic activity from threatening the stability of these finally mature civilizations.  Until that time, however, strict sanctions remain in place.  As you learned in high school, Seldon's Psychohistorical Prediction Functions require that the modeled population does not know that it is being observed!

Now, About YOU!

If you are interested in economic opportunities as a resource provider – either raw materials or a construction contractor, please coordinate with the Office of Protected Planets, TRANTOR System 3, GSL-01-3073-22375-23.  For planning purposes, anticipate an opening date in GC Orion, 36,005.  Ask for the free brochure – What I need to know to have commerce with Protected Planets”, GC-Pub-01-3073-103.

If you are interested in visiting Terra and experience the Culture of a new and emerging member of the Galactic Community, please contact the Office of Tourism, TRANTOR System 3, GSL-01-3073-22375-05.  Visit the relics of the former advanced civilizations – like the  SPUE Telescopes in Giza.  Be sure to book an off-world guide, otherwise the quaint locals will tell you, with great certainty, that those Pyramids were only burial tombs (like the copies that their post-cataclysm ancestors built)!

They will talk of countless slaves rather than ankhs (spue concentrators) and scarabs (gold-crystal spue diverters) used for construction.  It's quite a hoot to hear their amnesiac's reconstruction of their own history!

For planning purposes, expect tourism to open in GC Sagittarius, 36,007 or LC May 2009.  Ask for the free brochure – Planning a Vacation on Formerly Protected Planets – The Do’s and Don’ts”, GC-Pub-01-3073-275.

Note: SPUELinks require connection to the Galactic SPUENet 9.65 or more recent
